7 ways to get healthy in 2019

healthy living

The new year is almost here and that means that you might be looking at making some changes in your life. One of the most common—and best—resolutions that people will make going into the new year will be to get healthier.

Getting healthy isn’t easy. Luckily, here are seven ways that will help you live that healthy life you’ve always wanted.

  1. Set Goals

The first thing you should do when you start on your journey is set some goals. Setting goals, writing them down, and reviewing them regularly drastically improves the likelihood that you will reach those goals.

If you want to set the best goals, set some SMART goals. These goals are the easiest to keep track of and attain, but that doesn’t mean they are easy. Set your goals and get ready to be healthy!

  1. Exercise

There is no substitute for hard work. If you aren’t already regularly exercising, make one of your goals to workout three times a week. It can be at the gym or it can be at home. There are a ton of apps out there that will help you work out from your own house. Your phone can help you at the gym, too, for those that aren’t familiar with exercising.

Physical activity has long-term benefits, but regular exercise will almost immediately show an increase in your mood, sleep habits, and daily routines. Definitely make exercising part of your healthy 2019.

  1. Eat healthy

One of your changes for your healthy-living routine in 2019 must involve eating properly. You can exercise for hours every day, but it will be for nothing if you don’t eat properly.

Eating healthy doesn’t necessarily mean dieting. It means creating a meal plan, being aware of what you eat, and preparing your own meals.

By planning out your meals, you are less likely to splurge on pizza and fast food. Preparing your own meals means that you have healthy leftovers for lunch. Being aware of your eating means that you choose not to have a cookie because you had two of them earlier.

Focus on revamping the way you cook and what you make in your home. If you have a family, get them involved to make it more fun. Eating healthy is one of the best things you can do for a healthier 2019.

  1. Avoid too much of anything

Excess is the enemy to a healthy you. Too much junk food, too much drinking, too much smoking, too much Netflix…the list can go on and on.

But you can also have too much of a good thing. Too much exercise will cause you to burn out or hurt yourself. Too much of a focus on your diet will make you start counting calories obsessively or could lead to an eating disorder.

Be mindful of what you do too much—the good and the bad—and try to bring them back to a balanced place. Ask your partner or a friend to keep an eye on you to make sure you don’t over-do it on what you think is healthy.

  1. Get enough calcium

Your bones are the foundation of your body, but that foundation is weaker without enough calcium. Unfortunately, most diets don’t contain enough calcium to support healthy bones. There are a variety of ways to get more calcium into your healthy diet, including:

  • Drinking milk
  • Adding calcium-rich mixings to your salad, like almonds, cheese, and broccoli
  • Enjoying healthy snacks, like yogurt
  • Using calcium supplements, like Nano Calcium Essential, if you need that extra boost.

Without strong bones, your exercise efforts might do more harm than good. Calcium is needed for muscle growth, too. Make sure that getting enough calcium is part of your 2019 goals.

  1. Schedule a doctor’s appointment

If you are anything like the vast majority of the population, it’s been a while since you had a check-up with your doctor. Approximately 80% of men and women put off going to see the doctor. It might seem like an inconvenience or something that can wait, but you should change this bad habit immediately.

A doctor can provide you with specific advice for how you can be getting healthier. They can also make sure that there are no illnesses or problems developing that you might not notice. Don’t let your next check-up with a doctor be the one that’s too late; if you want to live a healthy 2019, schedule a doctor’s appointment ASAP.

  1. Check your attitude

Sometimes your worst enemy is yourself. Your own attitude, our perspective, and your stress levels will all play a deciding factor in whether you are successful in being healthy in 2019.

Make a point to find the positive in everything. Exercising might feel awful but try comparing your progress every few weeks or every month. You will see an incredible difference.

Try keeping a journal, or at least a note on your phone, about what makes you happy, what makes you unhappy and how you can change it, and what you have accomplished. And reward yourself for those accomplishments…you earned it!

Getting healthy in 2019 will not be a walk in the park. It will be a journey that will have its ups and downs. But if you keep these seven points in mind, that journey will be that much easier. Good luck, and kick 2019’s butt!
